A Vindication of the Rights of Women, by Mary Wollstonecraft, is a feminist essay that argues that women should be allowed to have an equal education as that of men. Throughout the essay, Wollstonecraft gives her arguments and then goes back and repeats them in different unique ways. She argued that women deserve to have the same rights of men because of their key place in society. They are needed and responsible for both childbirth and being one half of any marriage. Because women are essential in these very, very important things, they deserve to be granted the same rights as men concerning the area of education. This essay was incredibly tedious to read. It was long, and repetitive, and written in a way that was very hard to understand. I understand the points that she attempted to make in the text, but nowadays the pros are just incredibly difficult for people to grasp completely. It was because of this that I really did not enjoy the essay, even though it raised some good points about the rights of women versus the rights of men. Throughout time, these arguments have arisen everywhere. Should women be allowed to have the same rights as men? Can they even handle the responsibility of many of the rights of man? We are fortunate enough to live in a time where most people understand that it is preposterous to believe that women should be any lower than men. They deserve to have equal amounts of everything because they are capable, just as men are capable. Both of the sexes are capable in different ways however. Women find themselves very proficient and adept at handling social situations that often leave men baffled, but men are able to do feats of strength that the average women simply cannot accomplish.
The book got me extremely interested in the life of Malcolm X, and I am currently in the middle of a second biography of this amazing man. I would completely recommend this title to anyone looking for a good book to read.
