The non-fiction book that I chose to read over the summer was The Autobiography of Malcolm X. This was an absolutely incredible read and I got a lot more out of it than I thought I would. The book follows the life of Malcolm X from a young boy with a hard family life, to a prison inmate, to one of the greatest civil rights leaders of all time.
What was really good about this book was that it was written in a way that was very easy to understand. He wrote in a way that real people write, without all of the fancy words that make no sense historic leaders usually give to us. I also loved the amount of stories that he told about his young life. It was extremely interesting to learn about Malcolm X’s life as a pimp, gambler, drug addict, and convict.
The main theme of this book would have to be the theme of redemption. Time after time Malcolm X finds redemption in one way or another. Whether it is redemption from prison or the horrible life he once lived, Malcolm X could have been the poster child of all things redemption.
The book got me extremely interested in the life of Malcolm X, and I am currently in the middle of a second biography of this amazing man. I would completely recommend this title to anyone looking for a good book to read.
